Digital payments platform PhonePe has partnered with ICICI Bank to issue FASTags through UPI. This will help over 28 crores of registered PhonePe users recharge their FASTags on the app.
FASTags are used to pay for the fuel at petrol pumps and parking charges at shopping malls. The service can also be used to recharge mobile airtime.
How to Recharge FASTag on PhonePe?
FASTag is a mandatory electronic toll collection system introduced by the National Highway Authority of India to enable seamless travel on national highways without stopping at a toll plaza. The system uses RFID technology to scan the tag to your vehicle’s windscreen as you drive.
PhonePe is a leading digital payments platform that has processed over seven million FASTag recharges for its users as of November 2018. It supports recharges from all central FASTag-issuing banks, including Axis Bank, Federal Bank, HDFC Bank, IndusInd Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and RBL Bank.
Once you connect your FASTag account to PhonePe, you can recharge it through the UPI app. The process is quite simple and requires just a few steps.
First, open the PhonePe app on your smartphone and go to the ‘Recharge and Pay Bills’ section on the homepage. Select ‘FASTag recharge’ from the list of options and enter your vehicle registration number. After that, select the amount to be recharged and proceed with the payment.
How to Check FASTag Balance on PhonePe?
One of India’s most popular digital payment platforms, PhonePe allows you to make various payment transactions, including recharging your mobile, DTH, data cards, and even utility bills. However, there are a few things that you need to know before you get started.
The most important is a quick refresh of your bank account details to verify your authorized service use. The next step is to tap the ‘Recharge and Pay Bills’ section on the home page. Once you have done that, you are ready to see the big picture.
The best way to do this is first to find out which of the 24-registered banks in India you have a bank account with. Once you have found that out, you can then proceed to the next step of connecting your FASTag to your PhonePe account. Then, the time of your life should begin. You can check the latest balance and transaction details and make new payments with a wrist flick.
How to Connect FASTag to PhonePe?
If you own a vehicle in India, you must buy a FASTag before December 15, 2019, or face roadside penalties. A FASTag is a smart device that lets you pay tolls on National Highways without the hassle of visiting a toll plaza. This intelligent tag uses radio frequency identification (RFID) technology and is affixed to your windscreen.
The tag is linked to your bank account, and you can recharge it using various modes such as UPI, debit, or credit cards. However, the simplest way is via a digital payment platform like PhonePe.
The app allows you to add money to your FASTag through a simple interface requiring a minimum of Rs 100 as the base recharge amount. The app also lets you check your FASTag balance. The best part is that the app is free to download and use! You can use it on both Android and iOS devices.
How to Buy FASTag on PhonePe?
As the Indian government pushed for automated digital payments on national highways, it introduced FASTag as an alternative to cash at toll plazas. The prepaid tag is connected to your bank account through UPI and automatically deducts the amount from your account when you cross a toll booth.
However, it would be best to recharge your FASTag regularly as its balance gets depleted. You can restore your FASTag through popular payment apps like PhonePe, Google Pay, and BHIM.
To do so, tap Mobile Recharge under the app’s Recharge and Pay Bills section. In the next screen, select the FASTag Recharge option and choose your FASTag-issuing bank. After you have entered the vehicle registration number, you will be able to recharge your FASTag.
Once you have done so, PhonePe will send an SMS to your registered mobile number confirming the recharge details. You can also check your FASTag balance from the same screen. It will display the updated credit and other information about your FASTag account.
