DETROIT — General Motors‘ Manufacturing unit Zero electrical truck plant, which builds the GMC Hummer EV pickup, will take 4 weeks of downtime beginning Monday to organize for expanded manufacturing, Automotive Information has realized.
GM spokesman Dan Flores on Tuesday confirmed the downtime for the Detroit plant.
The Hummer EV pickup, the one car Manufacturing unit Zero builds as we speak, was delivered to 99 prospects within the first quarter. However demand for the pickup and the Hummer EV SUV, which is slated to launch subsequent 12 months, stays robust. GMC has logged greater than 77,500 reservations for the Hummer EV pickup and SUV mixed.
GM scheduled downtime on the plant so as to add manufacturing capability before deliberate, Flores mentioned. The automaker will set up tooling, equipment and gear whereas employees are laid off from June 27 via July 22.
