How to Clean Velcro

Velcro is a popular fastener for a lot of things. But it can get dirty and lose its stickiness over time.

If you need to clean a piece of Velcro, there are several methods you can use to get it back to its original condition. The best part is you don’t have to spend much money or time.

1. Using a brush

When Velcro isn’t cleaned regularly, it can become clogged with dirt, and debris reduces its stickiness. This is especially common when lint and hair collect on the material.

Cleaning a piece of Velcro with a brush can effectively remove lint, dirt, and hair from the hooks and loops that hold the material together. This method can clean fly masks, safety vest closures, protective boots, and more.

This technique is safe for the hooks and loops and allows you to rid your Velcro of accumulated lint and dirt without risking damage to them. It can be an excellent tool for helping your Velcro retain its sticky and functional properties as long as possible!

2. Using a vacuum

A vacuum hose can work wonders on a velcro piece that has a lot of hair or strings stuck to it. It will also help to scrub the velcro with soapy water to loosen up the hair and lint.

A velcro piece’s rough, hooked side is also prone to collecting debris. This can include lint, long hair, or short pet hair.

Cleaning this velcro portion with a vacuum can remove lint and hair without causing damage to the hooks. Then, you can use any of the techniques in this article to get the rest of the velcro clean. This technique is quick and easy to get your velcro in good shape again!

3. Using a pin

Velcro is an amazing fastener that holds bags, gloves, jackets, and more together. But, like most fasteners, it can get pretty dirty over time.

Often, Velcro will become magnets for hair, fluff and lint that gets stuck inside it and clogs up the hooks. It’s essential to keep velcro clean and free of this debris to function efficiently.

4. Using a comb

If you have a comb, it’s easy to clean velcro. Just make sure that you don’t pull too hard or it might unravel the little plastic hooks that hold velcro in place.

Alternatively, you can use a lint roller to remove lint and hair from Velcro. These lint rollers have an adhesive paper on one side that collects pet hair when you roll it over Velcro.

Lint rollers are a low-cost, simple way to remove pet hair from velcro and other surfaces. They are handy for getting lint and fluff off of surface-level areas, which are easier to reach than deep-down dirt and debris.

5. Using tweezers

Velcro fasteners are a great way to attach different clothing or accessories. However, over time they can become clogged with lint and hair.

Fortunately, several ways exist to clean velcro and keep it working correctly.

One of the most straightforward methods is to use tweezers.

Using tweezers is one of the most effective ways to remove individual strands of lint and hair from the hooks and loops of Velcro. This will prevent future clogs and restore the velcro’s ability to close securely.

6. Using a toothbrush

A stiff-bristled toothbrush can easily remove lint, dust, and other debris from Velcro. You can use a toothbrush you no longer have in your bathroom or one lying around the house.

A fine-toothed comb can also help eliminate lint and hair stuck in your Velcro. Scrub in one direction, starting at the end of the hook and working your way toward the loops.

Lint rollers are also an excellent tool for removing surface-level dirt and debris on a Velcro fastener. Roll it across your Velcro’s hook and loop side several times until any lint and debris have been removed.
