In recent years, brightly colored hair is becoming considerably more & more common. People are weary of the same old boring shades – you wouldn’t take clothes in only four coloring ranges, so why accept the identical restrictions on your hair?
Semi-permanent ‘alternative’ dye ranges, like Manic Panic, Directions, and also Stargazer, contain no chemical compounds, so if you want the color to be effective, you have to do it properly. Should you not, you are just wasting your cash!
The first thing to remember is that these kinds of temporary hair dyes are usually just a color stain blended into a conditioner. The thing with ‘stains’ is that they will only work with shades lighter than the coloring you are trying to use. Like if you were trying to blemish your wooden flooring using a wood stain – can you expect a ‘Beech’ girl stain to influence Mahogany wood? I think certainly not, and the same applies to flowing hair.
So, to ensure you have an ideal base for your new coloring, you should pre-lighten your hair using good quality bleach (unless you are already a very mild blond). I would recommend visiting any hairdresser for this step due to the fact so many things can go wrong together with bleach, but if you are insistent on going it alone, regarding your expectations. Effects will vary, but the following suggestions should help –
Normal Shade — End Result
Brunette — Lightest Blond
Mild to Mid Brown — Dark Blond
Dark Brown to be able to Black Orange — (not recommended without professional assistance)
If you have dark brown or dark-colored hair, I wouldn’t advise you to try this at home. It may need more than one application, and you must leave a minimum of 1 week between each application – if you do not like frizzy, dried-out locks!
Once you have pre-lightened, I advise shampooing with a purple toner to take the brassy yellow-orange tinge off; that will affect your stop color! When you are happy with the base, you are ready for the next level in the coloring process instructions applying the dye. Several people will advise several ways to do this, but this can be a way I like to do it instructions
1 . Wash your hair very well with a PH Balanced Scrub. I like La Riche ‘Directions’ Pre-Colour Shampoo, as it was produced for this purpose. Rinse & rest room towels dry (get as much water out as possible without the locks being dry)
2 . Place towels where you will be kommet, stick an old t-shirt with (regular hair dye-ers including myself have the old, trustworthy ‘Hair Dye T-Shirt’ which can be for this purpose alone – remember not to stick it in the automatic washer with your white shirts following! ). Read the instructions; therefore, you know how long to let it stay on.
3. Adhere on your gloves and petroleum jelly – it’s usually easier should you choose the vaseline bit JUST BEFORE putting gloves on, or perhaps vaseline will end up all over!
Several. If you are mixing colors, combine well in an old bowl/jug you can throw away afterward, or rename the ‘Hairdye Bowl’
a few. Apply the dye to your hair. If you have someone to aid in this, you will get more coverage if a Tint Remember to brush is used. You could also use an outdated toothbrush, your fingers, or maybe one of those squeezy mayo wine bottles (washed well, without the mayonnaise in! )
5. After applying, have a good verification to ensure the hair is entirely covered (including your roots). Brush through well until it eventually begins to emulsify (go frothy), then pin up off your neck and throat if you have long hair.
Some. Cover your hair with clingfilm or a shower cap — you may look silly. However, you’re not going to see the full, and the plastic helps maintain heat, which helps the color take to your hair better.
Seven. Leave for the amount of time recommended in the instructions – as there are no chemicals in the Directions/Stargazer dyes, it won’t hurt hair if you leave it on lengthier, but it’s best to be secure, in my opinion. Once that time is long gone, rinse well until the drinking water is nearly clear (it never truly runs fully clear along with bright-colored hair dyes). Don’t let the ‘rinse-off’ step on your skin, as it will spot your forehead!
8. Hair shampoo your hair with a color-care hair shampoo. La Riche ‘Directions’ Color Care Shampoo is a good option, as it is specifically formulated for use with vibrant, semi-permanent hair dyes. Make sure to give your scalp a bit of a wash to eliminate any staining. Rise, again, not letting the actual colored water run over the face – even the colored drinking water can stain, so be sure you still have your gloves upon!!
9. This is the bit that gets everyone into a hot debate. You can now (if anyone wishes) rinse your hair using 1 cup of white wine vinegar, then rinse well later (Not recommended with Orange Hair Dyes). It is said to take out any excess dye from your curly hair (so when you go to bed, you’ll not wake up in the morning with pads that match your hair color). On the other hand, some people believe it strips all the dye out rapidly. It depends on your hair. You may skip this step if you don’t desire to risk it.
10. Issue your hair. I use La Riche ‘Directions’ Colour Care Strengthener – once again, it’s specially formulated for use with these frizzy hair dyes, which your normal ‘off the supermarket shelf’ brand won’t be.
11. Fashion as usual!
You should have the perfect curly hair color if you do everything accurately. If you are unsure, talk to a hairdresser/colorist, as they can assist and will do the hard work for anyone who is too nervous about doing it alone.
The good thing about the Directions shade range is that there’s no limitation to the number of different effects you can achieve if you have the imagination. You can mix the colors to produce your shades, use various colors simultaneously, streaks of color, and so on. The choices are never-ending! Remember that if you already have a glowing blue color in your hair, any dye you use over it will certainly ‘adapt’ to the color until you bleach it back out. If you have a full head associated with blue hair and choose to go pink, the two colors will be pink, and you will wind up purple! Remember your color wheel before choosing your color!
The colors Directions have actually on offer include –
Alpine Green
Apple Green
Apricot
Atlantic Blue
Bright Daffodil Yellow
Carnation Pink
Cerise
Coral
Dark Tulip
Afro
Fire Red
Flame
Flamingo Pink
Fluorescent Glow (UV Reactive)

Neon Blue
Pastel Red
Pillarbox Red

Try something a bit different. There is ‘I’m too old or even ‘I’m not daring enough’ – you don’t have to go with a complete head of bright yellow-colored hair, but if you are golden-haired, why not add a dash associated with Purple or Red on the underside? Or for blondinet, a touch of pink or orange? The popular way (for those who just want to add a touch involving color) is to add talent to the underside of the front side of your hair, from under your fringe (if you could have one) to under your ear. Absolutely everyone is daring enough for you!!
Good luck, and when you are done, contact me by email with the pics!! I will generate an album on our Fb id, ‘The Rocker Locker,’ where all entries will be displayed. If we have enough entries by November thirtieth (2010), we will upload the most photo’s for the public for you to vote on – anyone who receives the most ‘likes’ unique pic by the 14th 12, 2010 will receive an award worth over £20, that contains –
