Toyota Corolla Hybrid Updates for 2022

Toyota has made a lot of changes to the Corolla hybrid. They include standard proactive driving assist, two more USB ports, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

Additionally, the 2023 Corolla Hybrid gets a horsepower boost (138, up from 121) and optional all-wheel drive. And it drops its base price by more than $1,000.

Powertrain

Toyota’s 1.8-liter Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder engine has been improved to boost power to 134 hp and 156 lb-ft of torque, giving the Corolla Hybrid more punch than ever. It’s also more fuel-efficient, thanks to a new exhaust heat recirculation system that gets the engine up to operating temperature quickly and stops the gas engine sooner when it isn’t needed, for example, in city driving.

Another improvement in the 2023 hybrid is a more powerful drive-motor design, which gives the hybrid a more confident acceleration feel. The new system is mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT), which allows it to shift gears automatically to optimize the combined energy produced by the gas engine and electric motors.

As for safety, the Corolla Hybrid comes with a solid list of standard features. They include adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning with lane keep assist, forward collision avoidance, and traffic sign recognition.

Fuel economy

The toyota corolla hybrid is one of the most efficient compact sedans in its class. It gets a significant update for the 2023 model year with refreshed styling, a revised hybrid powertrain with more output, updated tech features, and an available all-wheel drive (AWD).

In the Corolla Hybrid, Toyota’s advanced engines use Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence to help the machine use the most efficient amount of gas in each engine cycle. This helps increase fuel economy and reduces the likelihood of gas waste.

For 2023, the Toyota corolla hybrid’s drivetrain is enhanced with redesigned magnets and a 13-horsepower bump. It also switches to a lithium-ion battery pack.

The Corolla Hybrid’s newfound power is reflected in its EPA-estimated 47 mpg overall in daily driving. This figure is down slightly from the 52 mpg the 2022 hybrid got, but it’s still quite a bit better than most gasoline-powered cars in this class.

Safety

Toyota has a long history of designing safety features that help prevent crashes and protect people. The 2022 Toyota Corolla Hybrid is no exception, with a wide range of standard and optional active safety technology.

Every model in the Toyota Corolla hybrid lineup comes with the Toyota Safety SenseTM suite of driver-assist technologies as standard. This includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning with steering assist, adaptive cruise control, and road sign assist.

In addition, some models also come with rear cross-traffic alert and blind spot monitor. This system alerts you to vehicles that might be in adjacent lanes, even when you can’t see them through your side mirrors.

Aside from the standard suite of active safety features, all 2022 Toyota Corolla hybrids come with the latest Safety Sense 3.0 system. It adds improved versions of automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control, lane centering, and road sign assist.

Technology

With a more robust and improved powertrain and available Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive, the Toyota corolla hybrid is an ideal option for drivers looking to save money on gas while getting the most out of their daily driving. It also features various innovative tech features, including a standard 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, voice recognition, and more.

The 1.8-liter Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder engine is paired with two motor-generator systems to boost horsepower. Toyota says this new design adds 13 horsepower to the output, bringing total horsepower to 134 and 156 lb-ft of torque.

Another feature helps improve the hybrid’s fuel efficiency by using a regenerative braking system to recover as much energy from a stop as possible. This system works with the hydraulic braking system to maximize the power transferred into the brake pedal for the best stopping performance.

This technology also reduces the driver’s effort when waiting at a traffic light or during heavy traffic conditions by reducing the amount of power transferred to the front wheels. This is known as Brake Hold and comes standard on the Toyota Corolla Hybrid.
