What is the Golfweek Amateur Tour?

Our chapter hosts 15-18 tournaments annually on top courses across the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry, culminating in our national championship, where players in each flight compete to become tour champions.

Membership entitles members to receive a tournament bag, USGA handicap card, and hat, as well as discounts on practice rounds at tournament courses.

What is the tour?

The Golfweek Amateur Tour is a national series of amateur tournaments for players of all abilities. Each local tour features flighted stroke-play events at local courses; top performers in each tour qualify to play in Myrtle Beach’s 54-hole Tour Championship tournament each year.

Butch Novak, Tournament Director, leads the Cleveland/Akron Tour every year, hosting nine handicap-flighted weekend tournaments to give golfers with higher handicaps a chance to compete against players with similar abilities in weekend tournaments.

Each event is flighted based on your USGA handicap index so that you can play in a flight that best matches your ability. Players in each flight earn points based on their finishes; at the end of the season, only the top 10 from each flight and the full 15 overall tour members qualify for participation in our four-day Championship event!

Cleveland/Akron Tour members are eligible to compete at any Golfweek amateur tour event held throughout the USA – whether at local events, regional ones, or even those conducted outside their region!

How do I sign up?

Top performers at each flight of Cleveland/Akron series tournaments and 15 out of 300 tour members nationally across A, B, and C flights will be invited to Myrtle Beach for the National Championship tournament – over 800 tour members across all flight levels will participate! You can join at any point during the year – sooner is better, as more points can be earned towards qualifying for Myrtle Beach Nationals!
