WNBA star Brittney Griner‘s detainment in a Russian jail has been prolonged for 2 extra months.
Russia’s state information company TASS reported on March 17 that the Phoenix Mercury basketball participant—who was arrested at an airport close to Moscow in February after officers discovered vape cartridges with hashish oil in her baggage—would stay in detention till Could 19 after a Russian courtroom “granted the petition of the investigation.”
Griner, 31, faces a sentence of as much as 10 years in jail if convicted.
Ekaterina Kalugina, an affiliate of the Public Monitoring Fee, shared particulars about Griner’s present incarceration, telling TASS that the basketball participant was sharing a cell with two inmates who “had no earlier convictions and are charged with drug-related articles.”
In accordance with Kalugina, Griner—who performs on the Russian staff UMMC Ekaterinburg through the WNBA low season—has had no complaints about her detainment to this point, apart from the truth that, at 6’7, she is simply too tall for the usual jail mattress.
